Purpose of the Society
Founded in 1982, Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) is a major stakeholder in the humanitarian system. The Society is recognized by the Government as auxiliary to the public authorities in the humanitarian field in accordance with the provisions of the First Geneva Convention. The organization is also one member of the National Disaster Committee.
VRCS has identified Disaster Management and Disaster Preparedness as one of its main areas of intervention with a particular focus on community based disaster preparedness. It also implements a Health Program, whose main components are First Aid, Hygiene Promotion, MHM and health Emergency interventions. The organization also encourages Youth participation and promotes the International Humanitarian Law.
VRCS has branches in 6 different provinces and numerous sub-branches. It can also rely on a solid network of trained volunteers all over the country. Around 25 staff members are currently working at HQ in Efate, while around 11 are working in the other islands.

Purpose of the job:
The role of the Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI) Officer is to ensure that equality, diversity, protection and inclusion is of paramount importance to VRCS function at all level. The PGI Officer is expected to promote good relations and practices at provincial and community level. The PGI Officer may work within community services, supporting people who experience some form of discrimination during and after natural disaster events and health crises and delivering relevant workshops to VRCS staffs and volunteers and as well in the communities.
The PGI Officer will work closely with the Penama Branch Officer under the supervision of the Health & WASH Coordinator and other project managers to incorporate PGI into community programs and lead the training of Board Members, Branch Staffs and youths and Community-Based Volunteers (CBV).
The incumbent will liaise with the Ministry of Justice and Social Welfare and other NGO as required in order to progress the agreed PGI outcomes.
Selection Criteria:
• Tertiary qualification in community services and social welfare & or humanitarian fields
• Ability to implement multiple and sometimes rapidly changing priorities
• Well organised
• Able to work well under pressure for extended periods
• Able to work both as part of a team and with minimal supervision
• Integrity
• Clean record (Police clearance)
• Willing to travel as required (estimate 25% of time)
• Strong community services and social welfare experience
• Experience in project management, including managing budgets
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Strong problem solving skills
• Knowledge of the Vanuatu context
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Bislama (French would be advantageous)
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with Publisher and MS Project an advantage)
• Knowledge of the Red Cross movement will be an asset
