About VELA
VELA is a newly established Charitable Organisation with the objective and purpose to:
- Protect the Vanuatu Environment and promote sustainable natural resources management
- Receive and provide opinions in relation to changes to existing environmental legislation or proposals for new environmental legislation
- Promote public understanding of environmental law and encourage active public involvement in environmental decision making process
- To engage in policy and law reform processes with a view to promote improved environmental outcomes upon request by relevant authorities or institutions.

VELA is urgently seeking a
full time Project Coordinator with legal background to drive forward the
implementation of its activities. This is an exciting position and will be
based in Port Vila.
Roles
and responsibilities include the following but not limited to:
- Manage
the day to day administration of the organisation
- Lead and co-ordinate office management tasks of VELA resources,
ensuring effective management structures and financial policies are in place
- Deliver
and facilitate community awareness workshops
- Provide
legal advice to communities
- Build
relationship with donor partners, Government Institutions and other CSO/NGO’s
that support the aims of VELA
- Ensure
all reports to donors are accurate and on time
- Participate
in Board meetings and maintain effective contact with the Board to promote the
position of VELA and its work
- Work
closely with the Board and partners to craft, communicate and implement the
overall strategic and business plans for the organisation
- Translate
strategies into strategic and operational activities
- Grow
the membership of VELA
- Take responsibility for working with Board to
meet financial needs of VELA to ensure long term viability.
Criteria:
Experience and Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of Vanuatu Environmental
laws and development issues
- Experience in writing reports and
proposals and developing budgets
- Have at least 5 years’ experience
working on a project related NGO or
Public Sector is preferable
- Strong experience in program, staff and
financial management, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Experience as a community based
Advocator / facilitator
- Experience in mobilizing resources
- A relevant undergraduate degree in Law.

VELA offers a salary
inclusive of provident fund provision, commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
|
|
The position is initially for 12
months, with a strong prospect of continuing for further years. Applicants
