Position
Objective:
To assist and support the village
communities in East Santo, with emphasis on building sustainable employment and
income opportunities, and improving the environment in which they live. To
assist the communtiies of East Coast Santo
to plan and implement community development goals. To ensure transparency, accountability and
high quality project implementation.
Background:
The Lataro Island Community
Development Project seeks to support
positive community development outcomes for communities on the East Coast of
Santo. The project supports ideals of equity and
sustainable environmental management.

understanding are the starting points in developing an ethic in environmental
education and nature conservation. Local ownership of environmental initiatives,
equality of participation and innovative learning remains the cornerstone in
our organisation. We aim to strengthen this foundation through the following

establish action-based, effective and innovative learning models and
methodologies of environmental education in biodiversity rich areas
- Live & Learn promotes
attitudes, policies, institutions and practices that supports inclusive and
participative community-based education and nature conservation

work in appropriate partnerships with local teachers, communities, other NGOs
and government agencies, respecting their position and addressing their needs
- Live & Learn openly shares
knowledge, information and lessons learnt with national partners and colleagues
as well as the wider regional and international community.
Key
Responsibilities:
The Coordinator is
required to undertake the following tasks and activities:
- Work closely with the
communities on the East Coast to build trust and strong relationships
between communities and the organisation
- Assist communities to
develop their community prioritites and support them in realising these
opportunities
- Support Community
Committees to generate sound decision making processes
- Support Community
Committees to manage their resources effectively and transparently
- Regular financial and
narrative reporting to Live & Learn Head Office and the Project
Sponsor
- To raise conservation
awareness concerning the protection of important ecosystems on the East
Coast
- Build and strengthen
networks and partnerships with the Vanuatu Government, relevant partners
and other agencies in Vanuatu in accordance with the project objectives,
including non-government organizations and communities
- Assist with the development of a
monitoring and evaluation strategy to ensure activities achieve their
objectives, and ensure timely action is taken where objectives are not
being met
- Attend to any other duty
delegated by the Country Programme Team Leader and/or Finance Manager.

Criteria:
Qualifications/Experience:
- A tertiary qualification
in a relevant area, preferably at Bachelor’s Degree level or above
- At least five years’
personal experience working with communities ensuring a working knowledge
of the country’s community and local governance structures, knowledge and
understanding of socio-economic, political and demographic situation of
the country
- Extensive experience in
community engagement using participatory action tools and in facilitating
community training and workshops
- Experience in financial
reporting
- Experience in developing
and strengthening partnerships within the Government and NGO community
will be an added advantage and hands-on experience in design, monitoring
and evaluation of development projects and programmes
- Experience in the usage of
computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).

English and Bislama to communicate information effectively and clearly and
able to listen effectively to colleagues and partners, organisation with
interpersonal and teamwork skills – commitment to collaborating, sharing
information and initiatives and giving constructive feedback
- Excellent written communication to
produce reports, develop budgets and prepare acquittals
- Reliable, good interpersonal and
organisational skills, punctual and able to meet deadlines – so targets
and project and program goals can be achieved effectively
- A demonstrated understanding of
development principles and capacity development practices
- Ability to identify problems and develop
appropriate responses based on sound judgment
- Understanding of
environmental and other relevant issues in the context of Pacific
Countries
- Strong computer skills.
