Job Description:

The Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-Hazard Department (VGMD) and National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) have secured funding for a large-scale national adaptation and disaster risk reduction project designed to address Vanuatu's immediate climate change adaptation needs and mitigate natural disaster risks.

The DRR/CCA Consultant will be contracted for 24 months over a 3 year period and be based in the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Project Management Unit.

Duties and responsibilities:

The DRR/CCA Consultant will be work with the PMU in the establishment of process to enhance the coordination of DRR and CCA projects within Vanuatu.

The successful applicant will have:

Criteria:

- Minimum 8 years of experience in a DRR and/or CCA advisor or experience in community based ecosystem/environment management position or similar field in developing countries; Masters in

disaster management, climate adaptation, community ecosystem management environmental science or related degree

- Proven ability to mentor and train staff in aspects of DRR/CCA and community based planning and implementation

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Demonstrated experience in workshop facilitation and community planning

- Good knowledge of community development issues in Vanuatu; Experience working with local governments and local communities in the Pacific Region

- Experience with Government of Vanuatu procedures.
