Job Description:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in
Vanuatu in coordination with the Housing Working Group of the Public Work
Department is implementing a project funded by the European Commission Humanitarian
Aid and Civil Protection Branch aiming at strengthening Ni-Vanuatu resilience
through the upgrading of indigenous and locally developed construction
techniques.
Under the overall supervision of Shelter and Settlement Program Manager and the
direct supervision of the Shelter Trainer Consultant, the successful candidate
will be responsible of the implementation of shelter training and shelter
awareness activities in TC Pam affected islands.

Criteria:
Responsibilities and Accountability:
- Support IOM/PWD shelter trainings in the TC Pam affected provinces
- Assist the Shelter Trainer to conduct training and awareness campaigns on safer
shelter construction techniques by reinforcing the four key messages of the
Vanuatu Shelter Cluster
- Assist the Shelter Trainer to conduct awareness and sensitization activities on
vernacular construction techniques
- Assist the Shelter Trainer and PWD officers in conducting training to relevant
stakeholders as required for the implementation of programme activities
- 5.Enhance community participation and engagement on vernacular constructions
with a strong focus on women participation and gender mainstreaming
- Document vernacular construction techniques used within the provinces producing
a photographic catalogue of locally developed buildings
- Assist the Shelter Trainer Identify and map stakeholder and to update Public
Work Department (PWD) list of community builders within the provinces
- Report back to IOM and PWD on a regular basis
- Assist the Shelter Trainer in liaising and representing IOM with the Vanuatu
provincial government and partners with particular focus on the Public Work
Department (PWD) and National Disaster Management Office (NDMO)
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Knowledge of vernacular construction techniques in
Vanuatu
- A suitable qualification or experience in Architecture, Construction, Carpentry
or other appropriate area
- Demonstrated experience in capacity building and community engagement.
Language:
- Required English / Bislama Advantageous French
