The Office of the Chief Trade Adviser(OCTA) is an independent trade advisory body to the Pacific Forum Island Contries(FICs), based in Port Vila, Vanuatu. OCTA provides advice and support the FICs to analyse trade policy issues, develop and coordinate negotiating positions, build trade negotiation capacity, and advance their positions in trade negotiation meetings.

OCTA is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Trade Policy Advisor or Trade Policy Officer depending on seniority and professional experience of the applicant.

The Trade Policy Advisor or Trade Policy Officer will be reporting directly to the Chief Trade Adviser.

The position will invovle:

Criteria:

- Providing the FICs with timely and high - quality policy advice and briefings on trde policy issues;

-Assisting in the organisation of national and regional consultations and seminars and making presentations on trade - related issues as required; and

-Supporting the FICs in the PACER plus negotiations by undertaking research and providing adviceto the FICs on the negotiating issues.

- An advanced degree, preferable with a a specialisation in development economics,international trade or international trade law;

-Strong analytical, written and oral skiulls are essential;

-An understanding of international trade policy issues affecting small developing countries and the trade and economic issues facing the FICs;

-Knowledge of and/or experience in the pacific region would be a distinct advantage

-Priority will be given to nationals of the FICs;

-Experience dealing with international tradev or economic issues and negotiations in an international or regional organisation or government department would be an advantage; and
