Job Desctiption:
The Slipway Construction Manager oversees the construction and maintenance of slipway structures, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and expertise in construction techniques, materials, and safety regulations.
Selection Criteria:
The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications in marine engineering, construction management, or a related field, along with hands-on experience managing slipway operations or vessel maintenance. A strong understanding of slipway infrastructure, such as winches and cradles, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues are essential. Familiarity with Vanuatu's maritime safety, environmental regulations, and permitting processes is critical to ensure compliance. Candidates must demonstrate experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and achieving operational efficiency in resource-limited settings.
Strong leadership skills are required to manage diverse teams, including local workers and subcontractors, while fostering a safe and productive workplace. Excellent communication skills are essential to liaise with clients, contractors, and authorities effectively. The ideal candidate will also have a proactive approach to problem-solving, ensuring minimal downtime in operations and the ability to adapt to the challenges of working in a small island environment.
