Organisation Description:
IsraAID is an Israel-based non-governmental organization that was founded in 2001 and has since its inception worked in emergency and long-term development settings in over 54 countries. IsraAID's mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crises by partnering with local communities around the world to provide urgent aid, assist recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters. IsraAID has operated in Vanuatu since 2015 when the organization responded to Tropical Cyclone Pam.
IsraAID Vanuatu has since shifted its focus to implement a long-term strategy for all programs, including a focus on WASH interventions to ensure safe, accessible, and sustainable water solutions for community members on 5 islands. IsraAID programs in Vanuatu combine sustainable solutions, giving special attention to hands-on training and community ownership, and working closely with community, provincial, and national leaders.
Job Desctiption:
• Lead WASH multi-sectorial technical assessments in coordination with other IsraAID thematic areas, as well as other external agencies.
• Lead the development of WASH sector response plans and master budgets and contribute to IsraAID's overall response strategy.
• Support the long-term capacity building and programmatic integration of water and sanitation into IsraAID/Vanuatu core programming in Protection and Health, with particular emphasis on hygiene promotion.
• Supervise the overall implementation of project plans, ensuring adequate communication and organisation between local partners, international partners, staff and donors.
• Oversee the implementation of WASH projects, ensuring high quality and timely delivery of all project deliverables.
• Prepare project and donor reports in a timely manner and in compliance with internal requirements.
• Ensure that all systems built are sustainable, and have O&M plans in place.
• Work closely with the HQ Monitoring & Evaluation team.
• Ensure that all expenses are spent within budget limits and acquitted according to internal and donor standards.
• Ensure minimum standards are maintained in accordance with the Sphere standards.
• Represent IsraAID in relevant WASH working groups and forums.
• Identify advocacy, funding and research opportunities for action.
Selection Criteria:
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Water/Environmental engineering, or other relevant field.
• A minimum of three years of experience working in the area of WASH project management.
• Knowledge of water and sanitation engineering in the Vanuatu context.
• Experience in working with local communities and capacity development of local staff and stakeholders.
• Ability to work flexibly in challenging situations.
• Cultural understanding of the Vanuatu context.
• Commitment to the aims and principles of IsraAID.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bislama.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
