Organisation Description:
The Vanuatu country program is implementing three main programs – (1) the Disaster Ready Project (2) the COVID19 response program all supported through Australia Humanitarian Partnership and (3) the Gender Responsive Climate Change (GRACC) Program supported by DFAT. The strategic priorities are building localised women led protection, resilience and Climate Change. AAV also responds to humanitarian emergencies and is currently responding to TC Harold and COVID 19 in all the five program locations of Erromango, Eton, Malo, Malekula and Tanna. All of ActionAid's work is done through Women I TokTok Tugeta forums, a locally-led and driven women's forum that brings together over 4000 women, who meet regularly through women's collectives to respond to climate change and disasters.
The Communication Officer will be responsible for providing technical support and coordinating communication work for the Vanuatu country program through facilitating documentation of program lessons, process and impacts, recording real time development and humanitarian activities. S/he will be responsible for supporting and coordinating documentation, photography, written narratives and live recordings.
This will involve working on the country program communication guidelines for the projects and ensuring the Disaster Ready /AHP communication deliverables are met as well delivering communication expectations of the ActionAid Vanuatu's projects and WITTT (Women I TokTok Tugeta).
The Communication Officer is a member of the ActionAid Vanuatu Team and will be reporting to the Country Program Manager and working closely with the other team member's particular the Programs and Humanitarian Coordinator and Livelihoods Coordinator to deliver expectations of the ActionAid Vanuatu's projects and WITTT (Women I TokTok Tugeta). This position will be supported by ActionAid Australia's Communication Officer.
Job Desctiption:
1) Documenting program impact, stories of change and case studies
• Document WITTT leadership in Climate Change adaptation and resilience.
• Coordinating with NDMO team on communications team working on humanitarian action and Climate Change
2. WITTT Program Support
• Support WITTT to learn skills to document their journeys and experiences.
• Train and develop practical monitoring tools for WITTT and other local partners
• Assist in documenting and report writing on impact and transformation taking place ;
• Follow up on WITTT AHP/COVID 19 & GRACC Communication needs ;
• Devise a communication plan for WITTT, Women Wetem Weta and WITTT Sunshine
• Organising and working with AAA on designing various products to enhance visibility for WITTT.
3.Other Responsibilities
• Supporting Media engagement in Vanuatu and the Pacific Region
• Leading team engagement with VBTC and FemTalk
• Liaising with Communications Officer from Department of Women's Affairs and DFAT and share products from AAV work that articulate program impact and lessons.
• Supporting Staff and WITTT to understand AAA communications protocols
• Coordinating with AAA Communications Team and sharing timely information for social media, website, donor engagement and team learning.
• Providing Communications products from AAV to AAA Communications for AAA website

Selection Criteria:
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Essential
• Demonstrated experience in communication work including collecting content for case studies and social media, ability to take and share high resolution images and preparing communications products for a range of audiences and platforms
• Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills
• Knowledge of media in Vanuatu, understands the National Protocols for NGO's in-country and experience writing media releases and liaising with the media.
• Is committed to promoting Ni-Vanuatu women's rights in the community and at National Level
• Understanding of humanitarian system and women's rights issues in Vanuatu
• An ability to work with rural women, with diverse stakeholders with differing levels of education and experience
• Project management skills and an ability to balance multiple projects and stakeholders engagement
• Professional Fluency in Bislama and English
