Purpose of the program
Founded in 1982, Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) is a major stakeholder in the humanitarian system. The Society is recognized by the Government as auxiliary to the public authorities in the humanitarian field in accordance with the provisions of the First Geneva Convention. The organization is also one member of the National Disaster Committee.
VRCS has identified Disaster Management and Disaster Preparedness as one of its main areas of intervention with a particular focus on community based disaster preparedness. The Disaster Management team works effectively with local communities and other stakeholders (government and partners) to prepare and respond to disaster and be responsible for daily management of logistic support and other requirements for Disaster Management activities of Vanuatu Red Cross Society.
Job Desctiption:
Purpose of the job: The Disaster Branch Resilient Officer will be responsible for providing implementation of Disaster and Resilient Related activities in Branch, provincial and community level in peace time and in the event of disasters and After a Disaster
Selection Criteria:
• 1-3 years' experience of program coordinator in the field of community base natural disaster risk reduction and climate change and logistic management.
• Demonstrated experience and competencies in at least two (2) years of the following sectors:
• Natural resource management project
• CCA and DRR management and reduction programs/projects
• Community base program
• Capacity building program
• Monitoring and evaluation of project/program
• Logistics
• Finance
• High qualification in one of the sectors/field will be an asset
• Ability and flexibility to regular travelling to other islands will be expected to spend several stays a few days, a week in the islands.
• Driving license required
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent communication skills, including good oral and written communication
• Skills for writing report
• Ability to work in a team and interest in sharing skills as well as learning from others
• Team management and leadership, training and facilitating skills
• Knowledge of Vanuatu context across the country
• Good knowledge of Bislama
• English and or French is required
• Understanding the Red Cross & Red Crescent movement
