Organisation Description:
Vitamin Sea Playgroup Charitable Association is dedicated to improving opportunities for play-based, montessori inspired and outdoor education in our community. We aspire to grow and eventually work with the community to set up a fully functioning kindergarten. Our big dream is that all preschool and kindergarten children have equitable access to quality education.
Job Desctiption:
The teacher will be responsible for co-running a homeschooling/playgroup with the founder of the group, Alexis Cullen. The playgroup will contain 6 children ages 2 - 4 years old. Play-based, and mostly outdoors, this playgroup is a creative and respectful place for children to socialize and begin to prepare for Kindergarten and potentially Class 1. This is a full time position, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Selection Criteria:
Qualifications
· Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Care and Teaching
· Can provide police clearance
· Fluent in English
· Fluent in Bislama
· Open minded and willing to learn new teaching approaches
· Experience with the Montessori approach, and/or child-led, play-based and outdoor education is a bonus (or willingness to learn, as training will be available for the right candidate)
· Friendly, upbeat personality
· Likes to sing and dance with children (ability to play a musical instrument is a bonus) (music/movement)
· Reads children's books to a group of children in an animated, excited way (literacy)
Can plan and implement play-based, engaging and age appropriate numeracy and science learning experiences
· Solution oriented and self-motivated
· Honest and direct. Not afraid to share opinions and ideas with co-workers and the founder of the group.
· Knowledge of Vanuatu kastom and culture
Responsibilities and Duties
· Full time position, Monday through Friday
The playgroup will be from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM every day. You will need to arrive at 7:30 AM to set up and finish the day at 3:30 PM (the 2 hours after playgroup is for clean up, and preparing activities for the next day)
· Prepare activities which are play-based that allow numeracy and literacy objectives to be achieved
· Set up before the playgroup starts each day and clean up after
· Embed Vanuatu culture and kastom in learning, such as teaching traditional sand drawing and weaving
Salary:
Negotiable depending on experience
