Background
In the first half of 2019 the USAID Climate Ready program supported the Vanuatu Chamber of
Commerce (VCCI) and the Vanuatu Business Resilience Council (VBRC) to develop a Vanuatu
specific training workshop for the private sector in regards to business preparedness planning.
The purpose of the workshops was to guide businesses through a planning process by which the end product is a tailored Business Continuity or Preparation Plan, to be created with staff input and implemented in times of business disruption. Disruptions cover a range of different types from a simple power outage, all the way to experiencing a tropical cyclone.
From this a training program was developed in Bislama and this fit for purpose training was then implemented in Port Vila and then again in three additional provinces, supported by USAID funding.
Over 100 businesses have benefited so far from the support shown by the USAID Climate ready Program. A secondary outcome of the training events included the introduction of the Vanuatu Business Resilience Council to businesses in Port Vila and the provinces visited. These workshops were a key activity in providing information around business resilience and preparedness to the private sector at provincial level.
VCCI/VBRC would like to support and strengthen its business resilience initiatives into 2020 with the engagement of a contracted Business Resilience Officer, to build on the work already
