| | In February 2012, following stakeholder’s consultation, AusAID’s Health Program received a request from the Director of Public Health for assistance in reviewing the Public Health Act. In essence, the law is out of date, confusing and not clearly understood. In response to this request and a request received by the former Director General of Health in |
| | 2011, AusAID contracted a technical adviser to undertake a review of the following health-related legislation and rules: Health services laws and the health committees Act, Public health act (1994), Health information, Health practitioner’s registration law, Nurses Act. |
| | As the VLC will soon be staffed and in a position to commerce work on the references it has received, the Secretary of the VLC and the Director-General of the ministry of Justice and Community Services feel that the Department of Health and the VLC should work in partnership on the consultations to review complex and important pieces of health-related |
| | legislation working closely with and supported by a technical adviser provided by the Partnership and the technical adviser being provided by the AusAID funded Health Program. |
| | The Partnership is funding the short term technical adviser to provide support to the VLC and the research officer from the VLC who will be participating in the health-related legislative review consultation commencing in July for a period of 10 weeks. |
| | Duties and responsibilities: |
| | 1) Provide support to the consultation process for the health legislative review |
| | 2) Support and facilitate the consultation process for the health legislative review process in the consultations. |

| | - A degree in law with at least 5 years experience in a public law office or a degree (or equivalent experience) in public administration with at least 5 years experience in public administration at a |

| | - Must have experience in development of legislation or policy; High level skills in the analysis of information and the drafting of reports; Demonstrated skills in the conduct of facilitative, |
| | participatory consultation |
| | - Demonstrated skills; Experience and commitment to mentoring and skills transfer; Excellent oral and written cross-cultural communication skills at multiple levels. |
