| Job Description: |
| The United Nations volunteer (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. |

| The successful candidate will be based at office of Justice in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Contract duration is 12 months (initial 3 months contract that will automatically be extended by a 9 month contract provided the employee agrees to the expected slight amendments of the UNV conditions of services as of July 2012); monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) |
| of 75,000 Vatu intended to cover housing, basic needs and utilities, settling-in-grant (if applicable); life, health, and permanent disability insurance; return airfares (if applicable); resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The National UN Volunteers are contracted under the National UNV Conditions of Service. |

| Duties and Responsibilities: |
| 1) Assist the government to prioritize and implement UPR recommendations and collaborate with civil society |
| 2) Provide support to and coordination with other parts of government or a national coordination body for UPR follow-up in the country |
| 3) Assist in efforts to raise awareness of the UPR recommendations, especially for public officials, civil society and international organizations in the country |
| 4) Assist OHCHR-Pacific to work with government, civil society and other stakeholders on the implementation of the UPR recommendations related to the prevention of torture and the establishment of a NHRI |
| 5) Produce a report every six month on the progress of the implementation of the above mentioned UPR recommendations |
| 6) Produce a monthly report on the activities undertaken under his/her mandate to be shared with Ministry of Justice and OHCHR-Pacific. |

| Interested applicant must possess the following requirements: |
| Criteria: |
| - University degree, preferably in law, social science or other relevant field; Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in human rights or other related area; Experience |
| in the pacific is an asset |
| - Good knowledge of international human rights mechanisms, especially the UPR; fully proficient computer skills including use of relevant soft ware and other applications, e.g. word processing, |
| spreadsheets, internal databases, and internet etc. |
| - Fluency in oral and written english is essential; Good at organizing meetings, meeting deadlines, working as a team and under pressure; A demonstrable commitment to the values and norms of the |
