| | The office for the public solicitor is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified person to the post of acting public solicitor for a period of four and half months to start immediately. Duties and responsibilities: |
| | 1) To provide high level representation to clients eligible for a grant of legal aid, in criminal and civil proceedings in the magistrates court, supreme court and the court of appeal of Vanuatu |
| | 2) Oversee the coordination and management of the public solicitors office |
| | 3) To coordinate, supervise and provide leadership ton the legal and administration. |
| | Interested applicant must have the following requirements: |
| | Criteria: |
| | - Possess a degree in law from a recognizes university; Be admitted to practice law in Vanuatu, a commonwealth or other jurisdictions; Meet all requirements under the constitution, the public solicitors act, |
| | and the legal practitioners act as amended; Have knowledge of the government systems of administration and law related matters; Have excellent advocacy skills |
| | - Have excellent ability to conduct legal research on diverse legal issues including the use of computer –based research tools and the internet; Have ability to supervise legal staff; Possess excellent written and |
| | oral communication skills with ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, distressed client and social and economically disadvantaged people |
| | - Have excellent problem-solving skills and ability to quickly analyze documents about civil and criminal law and procedure; Have ability to deal with members of the public who may be affected by prohibited |
| | substances or who may be mentally ill; Have ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure |
| | - Knowledge of public solicitors act and policies; Possession of motor vehicle drivers license will be an advantage. |
